MARLOW’S EDWARD II Ken Eulo’s adaptation of Marlow’s Edward II condenses the play from a sprawling unmanageable 48 characters to a thematic personalized account using 11 actors. The iambics were kept in tact as well as content, theme and conclusion. It has gone from an oversized opera to a intensely-driven chamber piece. Originally done Off Broadway at the Courtyard Playhouse in New York City, it then went nationally to regional theatres. This unique piece of theatre is now available for production.

THE FRANKENSTEIN AFFAIR From the tender age of 16, Mary Shelley was enmeshed in a web of tragedy, in which most of those close to her met untimely deaths. In 1814 her life became entangled with Percy Shelley’s, from the inception a bizarre coutrship that included lovemaking in the gravesite of her mother, famous feminiest Mary Wollstonescragt, who died giving mary life. Mary’s father William Godwin, a distinguished writer and nagging parasite of a man, blamed Mary for her death, and never forgave her. Small wonder, the the mosther and his maker, Frankenstein, emerged from the pen of an 18 year old girl. A GOOD OLD FASHIONED REDNECK COUNTRY CHRISTMAS Lou’s Diner is the friendliest place in the south, but this Christmas Eve, Lou and the girls are steamed. Lou’s husband, Bill, and his pals Dave and Jimmy have taken off for a day of hunting in the mountains. Dave is married to one of Lou’s waitresses while Jimmy is trying to avoid marriage to the other. Seems they want to avoid family issues by getting out of town for the day. With the warm-hearted women hard at work in the diner on Christmas Eve and the men staunchly avoiding the traditional holiday setting back home, we get to witness each group’s perspective of the other through the eyes of a stranded truck driver named Bob. Whoever said, “Men are from Mars, and Women are from Venus” must have met this crew! When Mary Sue, the pregnant and poignant stranger gets lost in the woods and ends up having her baby in a cow shed in the middle of a blizzard, the red-neck boys become the most unlikely Wise Men at the Nativity you ever saw! Bob is there to witness it all and give us the narrative of their adventure. The first miracle of Christmas blesses everyone in this tender comedy, and with simplicity and grace, gently reminds the audience of the real reason for the season! Blending a healthy dollop of southern comedy with a pinch of O’Henry’s “Gift of the Magi”, “A Good Old Fashioned Red Neck Country Christmas” is overflowing with infectious high spirits! Laughs abound! © Kristine Bauske 2008 All rights reserved |

Anatomy of an Actress Is it possible to create a new soul? Harley knows her time on Broadway is limited unless she changes type, so she accepts the part of a mother of a twenty-year old. The play is an excellent vehicle to establish Harley as a serious actress because the play has a powerful final scene. The only problem with the final scene is that it closely parallels a personal tragedy and she can’t keep the character’s pain separate from her own. And the struggle to separate her pain from her performance threatens to end her career. A play-within-a-play, Anatomy of an Actress tells the story of a woman’s struggle to create a new soul. © Rootie Simms 2006 All rights reserved |
